Chapter Eight |
Chapter 128 |
NOW, in the night
while the disciples slept, lo, Jesus rose and went alone into a mountain
pass, six miles away, to pray. |
1: In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples and said, |
5) Three days and nights the multitudes remained, and none had anything to eat. |
2: I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: |
6) And Jesus had compassion and he said, |
3: And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. |
If I should send the multitudes away they might not reach their homes, for they are faint, for some have journeyed many miles. |
4: And his disciples answered him, From where can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? |
7) And his disciples said, Where shall we get enough of food to feed them all? There are four thousand men, besides the women and the little ones. |
5: And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. |
8) And Jesus said, How many loaves have you? 9) They answered, Seven, and some little fish. |
6: And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people. |
10) And Jesus said, Go to, and seat the people as you seated them the other day when all the multitudes were fed, in companies of twelve.
7: And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. |
11) And when the people were sat down in companies of twelve
the loaves and fish were brought.
12) And Jesus
looked to heaven and spoke the Word; and then he broke the seven loaves in
little bits, and likewise cut the fish. |
8: So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets. |
14) The twelve went forth and gave to every one; the people ate and they were filled; and all the fragments that were left were gathered up, and there were seven baskets full. |
9: And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away. |
15) And then the people went their ways, |
10: And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha. |
and the twelve took boats and came to Dalmanatha by the sea. |
16) Here they
remained for many days, and Jesus told the twelve about the inner light that
cannot fail; |
11: And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. |
12: And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, Why does this generation seek a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given to this generation. |
13: And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side. |
14: Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf. |
15: And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. |
16: And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. |
17: And when Jesus knew it, he said to them, Why reason you, because you have no bread? perceive you not yet, neither understand? has your heart hardened? |
18: Having eyes, can't you see? and having ears, can't you hear? and do you not remember? |
19: When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up? They say to him, Twelve. |
20: And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up? And they said, Seven. |
21: And he said to them, How is it that you do not understand? |
22: And he came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to him, and asked him to touch him. |
23: And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw anything. |
24: And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. |
25: After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. |
26: And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. |
27: And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Whom do men say that I am? |
21) And then they
journeyed on, and came into the land of Caesarea-Philippi. |
28: And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. |
23) And Matthew
said, Some say that you are David come again; some
say that you are Enoch, Solomon, or Seth. |
29: And he said to them, But whom do you say that I am? And Peter answered and said, You are the Christ. |
30) And Jesus
asked, Who do you think I am? |
32) And Jesus
said, |
30: And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. |
39) Then turning to the twelve he said, What you have heard this day tell not to any man. |
40) Then Jesus and the twelve went up and were Susanna's guests for many days. |
31: And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. |
32: And he spoke that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. |
33: But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get behind me, Satan: for you savor not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men. |
Chapter 129 |
34: And when he had called the people to him with his disciples also, he said to them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. |
THE news soon
spread that Jesus and the twelve were come, and many people came to see. |
35: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. |
3) If you would give your life for selfish
self, then you will lose your life. 5) This life is but a span, a bauble of today. There is a life that passes not. |
36: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? |
6) Where is your profit if you gain the world and lose your soul? |
| 37: Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? | What would you take in payment for your soul? |
38: Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. |
7) If you would find the spirit life, the life
of man in God, then you must walk a narrow way and enter through a narrow
gate. |
